You have scheduled a Newborn Session. Now what?

Below is a detailed explanation of tips, frequently asked questions, and how your session will run. PLEASE message me with ANY questions.

tips & tricks

The following instructions are suggestions only. You know your baby best, so some of these instructions may not be possible. However, I have found that these tips work WONDERFULLY to help make the most of our time together for a successful session.

Please don’t stress if you can not do everything suggested. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and I totally understand this is a crazy time for your family! However, willing to alter your schedule just a bit for the day can help make your session a success!

BABY WILL BE HUNGRY.  LIKE REALLY, REALLY, HUNGRY.

This is a workout for your little one. They will be burning extra calories and therefore demand some extra food. When feeding your baby, please take your time and make sure your baby gets a full feeding. I like to use the term “milk drunk, ” meaning your baby eats until he falls into a deep sleep. Please don’t feel rushed during feedings at the studio. There is plenty of time set aside during your session for baby’s needs. It is so important to make sure baby has a full belly to get those sleepy baby poses. A hungry baby will not pose and will remain unsettled during the session.

If you live nearby, feed your baby immediately before you leave your house to come to the session. If you live more than 30 minutes away, please feed your baby about 2-3 hours prior to the session, then, plan on feeding again as soon as you arrive at my studio to get baby nice and full before we start the session. Babies tend to sleep when they want but if at all possible, please keep baby up for the hour before session. I understand this isn't always possible when driving to your session. Don't stress over it!

**Please avoid foods that can cause gas a few days before your session if you are nursing.

**Please avoid caffeine if at all possible the morning of your session if you are nursing.

Pacifier

If you can, bring the soothie pacifier the hospital sent you home with. It’s the bendable, green/blue/orange one, and won’t leave marks. Even if you haven’t used one, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing him/her really helps.

However, if you really prefer that we don’t use a paci, that is fine as well! I will always respect your wishes!

During the session...

TEMPERATURE: It will be around 75 degrees in the studio. Due to this, I will be dressed comfortably for a warm few hours, and suggest you do to! This warm temperature will keep baby’s skin color nice and even, as well as help him stay warm and comfy since he will be undressed for most of the session. You are welcome to bring the clothes you want to change into.

FOOD: You are always welcome to bring a snack or lunch since the session may take place during lunch hours.

WHAT TO BRING FOR BABY: A zip up style sleeper is perfect for baby to wear to the studio. A bottle warmer is available if needed as well as a changing table. I also have things like burp rags, diapers, wipes, etc.

WHAT TO WEAR: Neutrals or earth tones (black, white, grey, tan, etc.) photograph great for family pictures. Avoid pattern mixing and clothing with characters. If you have a specific outfit you want baby photographed in please bring it with you. This includes any bows or other sentimental items. However, numerous wraps, outfits, and props will be available for the baby, so you don't need to bring anything.

SIBLINGS: Sibling and family photos will be done first. Older kids have a tendency to lose interest quickly, so we want to get these photos done right away. It is a good idea to have someone with you to entertain kids for the 2+ hours the session will take. There are a few great parks in town, a swimming pool, and numerous shops and restaurants. If you plan on having siblings stick around during the session, just let me know ahead of time. You will be responsible for any damages.

Location

We will be in the tiny house behind our shop. My home is located on 52 hwy, follow the driveway back and I promise you won't miss it. Sometimes GPS will take you down a gravel road, if so, turn at the "Jackson" mailbox.
